Old Town Dubrovnik

The beautiful marble streets of the Old City in Dubrovnik look just as stunning through my crappy Canon 1000D Camera, as they did in real life.  Luckily some of these photos were captured when there were tens of thousands of tourists surrounding me.

Theres not much to do in the Old City of Dubrovnik, climb the city walls, go to the beach for the day, jump off the wharf, sunbathe, or eat in a nice street-side cafe, this city has been taken over by tourists.  It makes me sad to see that the touristing industry has become the dominant part of a beautifully historic place.

In the summer time youll find it hard to walk these streets casually, youll spend most your time dodging oncoming traffic, especially when the cruise ships docks for a day and theres about twenty thousand walking tours taking place.  But, if and when you can, get the time to slowly stroll through the streets and down the alleys, youll appreciate the beauty of it.

During my time in Dubrovnik I learnt how to live like a local, and even sitting here in Brighton, in 16 degree weather with torrential winds gusting about, I can imagine the streets so vividly in my head.

Oh how I wish I could go back!

Old Antics

After leaving New Zealand back in April, Ive tried to keep in contact with my nearest and dearest.  Its hard because of the time difference and having such a different lifestyle to those back home, with University, work, etc, but we do our best to keep updated.

My best friend was fortunate enough to whisk away from her family in Bosnia for a few nights to come join the two of us in Dubrovnik.  I couldnt have been happier to see her, it was the three hooligans back together again, and we didnt waste a minute of it... that is, after i slept of some extreme flight-sickness.

Its surprising thinking how three people can live in three completely different parts of the world, and live completely diverse lifestyles, yet when in each others company, its as if we never left home.  Im so grateful to have spent the time with two of my closest friends, definitely helped fight the homesickness, well for a few weeks at least.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Nothing gets better than these glorious shots I took whilst in Dubrovnik.  One of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen.

As part of my three week trip to Europe back in July, I was extremely fortunate to be able to spend half that time in a beautiful city call Dubrovnik, Croatia.

A good friend of mine, who I have known since I was about five years-old, is half Croatian/half Kiwi and spent his European Summer living with relatives in Dubrovnik, and I was lucky enough to be welcomed into their home and stay with them whilst I was over there.

Theres something about staying with locals that makes travelling and exploring a city so much more special.  The locals will always know where to go and what to do, and best of all they know what NOT to do, too.

I had such a spectacular time with them, learning about their lifestyles and experiencing it first hand - couldn't have asked for a better tour guide.  Looking back through my photos of this beautiful city makes me appreciate the time i spent there even more.  Cannot wait to get back there next year!

Take Me Back To Summer

As I sit writing this, in a small cafe in Brighton, with overcast dark clouds out the window, and a steaming hot, triple-shot cappuccino beside me, I cant help but lust over my photos from my European trip this past summer.

Ideally I would spend my life travelling to new towns and cities, week-by-week, and never have to experience weather below 25 degrees.  But we all know thats impossible for an 18-year-old student.  But one can always dream.  And thats what ill be doing for the next 6 months....

My long list of European Cities to explore seems to be getting longer rather than shorter, and being the realist I am (well try to be) I know actually getting to these places will not happen overnight.  Especially when finding a job in one of the worlds more populated cities is taking what seems like forever...

So for now ill let myself wander over ideas for future escapes to Europe, and live vicariously through my favourite lifestyle bloggers instagrams (Jessica Stein, Camille Charriere and  Zanita Morgan).

Overdue Post No.1

Its coming up on two months since I travelled to Cyprus, and boy has that time gone by fast.  The temperature in the UK has dropped drastically in the past couple of weeks, and I now find myself wanting to go back in time... to 34 degrees... in Cyprus, precisely.

I really want to start a steady flow of posts and so Ive decided to just start posting my photos with a short blurb or summary of my happenings, rather than long detailed stories of what the photos are about - which I had previously imagined for my blog.

I'm currently in Brighton, East Sussex, UK, for a few days working and also exploring this seaside city.  I've been to Brighton several times before, but its always been a work affair (train, work, train, London) so I never had the chance to wander to the Pier, or get lost among the North and South Laines.  But this time, seeing as Im working for a few days in a row, Ive been lucky enough to stay in Brighton.  Today was my day off and my one opportunity to not care about the time of day and heart out on an explorer adventure.  All I can say it, I wish i had done it earlier.

Tips for anyone heading to Brighton, the Laines are a must for cute boutique stores and gorgeous cafes.  The Pier is a fun filled place for anyone of any age.  Take a long morning stroll along the seafront and breathe in the seaside air.  Don't be in a rush, Brightoners tend to not be very active till about 10am, so treat yourself to a relaxing morning.

Thats all for now.
