Sorry for the delayed post, this past week
here in Melbourne has certainly flown by! The time since my, somewhat eventful,
arrival has been spent relaxing with family, to the extent that I have barely
even opened my laptop!
But to bring you up to speed I should
probably explain this ‘eventful arrival’ I had.
I spent the short 3 and a half hour flight
watching a whole season of New Girl, a favourite TV series I religiously follow
online, and enjoying the in-flight meal; including an amazing sticky date
pudding for dessert. Being seated second
in from the isle meant I was rather restricted with what I could do, and how
much I could move, so staying put was the best option.
Id like to believe I had luck and good
fortune from my Saint Christopher pendant; given to me as a goodbye present
from my Dad, on the night that I arrived.
Being in such a rush to get off the plane and through to my bags, I sped
through the walkways and cleared customs as fast as possible. Luckily I didn’t wait long for my bags to
come through, then I headed through the otherside.
My Uncle Michael was driving around the
pickup bays waiting for my arrival. Because of the change in layout at the
entrance of the airport and pick up/drop off areas, it took me about 10 minutes
of walking up and down, across and around to find him. We chucked my bags in the car and were on our
way through exit… when I had a gut feeling something wasn’t quite right. Frantically searching through my handbag, I
knew something was missing, my passport.
I checked everywhere I knew it could be, about 10 times, I vividly
remembered putting it inside the bag; but it was no where to be seen. Then to top off the panic I realized my
laptop was missing too. I put it in the small basket at the top of the trolley
with my handbag when I went to get my bags.
Obviously I was on such adrenaline hype that I just grabbed my handbag
without noticing the laptop and jumped into the car! We drove back to the
entrance of the airport and I jumped out and ran to where I had left the
trolley, praying it was still there. (I
think I would pass out if it was gone. Stupidly, back home I had a hard drive
go missing and never bought another, so I would have lost my life if it wasn’t
there.) But ever so extremely luckily
it was sitting right where I had left it. I couldn’t believe my luck! We reported my lost passport to the customs
officer inside the airport, retraced my steps and within 10 minutes got a call
saying it had been handed in!
It was a very eventful beginning to my trip
indeed!
